If you don’t market through digital, you basically don’t exist. It might sound harsh, but it’s true. Really ask yourself, when was the last time you read a magazine, let alone an ad in a magazine. What about when you didn’t fast forward TV commercials or took a trip to the bathroom when they came on?

This is why Digital Marketing is essential to the success of your business. You can have the best video or marketing campaign, but if you don’t have the attention of your target audience, they will never see it.

The basics of Digital Marketing break down to the following:

  • Who are you looking to target?
  • What’s the end goal of your campaign?
  • How are you measuring that end goal?

Once you establish these simple principles, a solid digital strategy will get you to your goals. 

The most important aspect of your campaign is your target audience, without it, even the best creatives go unseen.


The stadium you see is an example of a great target audience. Beer and hotdogs are sold because guys love beer and hotdogs are easy to eat during a game. If Citi Field decided to sell Pene all vodka and only Martini’s, they’d never make a sale.

This is audience targeting.

When you create an ad on today’s modern social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Google, or SnapChat, you get to decide who will see your content. An example of the level of detail you can create is like so:

  • 25-40 year old parents within 5 miles of your business
  • Friends of recently engaged couples
  • Parents of children aged 13-18

This level of detail allows you to pick and choose which creatives are seen by certain groups. You can create different ad segments so that your creative is viewed to only the most relevant audience.

What IS my goal?

Such a simple question, but not many actually think about it when it comes to their marketing campaign. Sometimes there is no end goal, and that’s an issue. How can you finish the race when you don’t even know where the finish line is yet?
